Pamela shilling, MA

I am excited about the opportunity to accompany you on your spiritual journey. I am a chaplain and certified spiritual director in the Ignatian tradition. My life experiences as a wife, mother, caregiver of an elderly parent, and elementary school teacher help me to be present for others as they experience life’s joys and challenges. I look forward to meeting you and exploring the presence and love of God in your life.

Spiritual Director & Chaplain

Background and Formation:

I am the Chaplain and Spiritual Director at Malta House, a transitional home for women who are

pregnant or have a baby and do not currently have a home. At Malta House I meet with the mothers

individually for spiritual care and support, conduct weekly prayer groups, and plan and lead retreats for

the mothers and staff. I am a member of the care team that supports the healing of the mothers and

provides the resources they need to transition to independent living.

As a member of the College of Directors at the Murphy Center of Ignatian Spirituality at Fairfield

University I provide spiritual direction to university students in a semester-long course, Encountering the

Living God. Additionally, I provide spiritual direction and spiritual exercises to a wider community

supporting people of all ages and backgrounds. I also provide spiritual direction to participants in the

Diocese of Bridgeport’s Leadership Institute.

Trained as a chaplain at the Norwalk Hospital in the Clinical Pastoral Education program, I ministered to patients, families, and staff during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to being a

member of the PACT Peer Support team that provided emotional support to members of the

hospital community during the pandemic.

Additionally, I provide spiritual direction for the Office of Spirituality - Eastern Provence’s Contemplative

Leaders in Action Program. Providing spiritual care to young adults (24-36) who are part of a leadership

formation program based on Ignatian spirituality.
